Planetshakers Conference
05-10/04/2010
During the 1st week of holidays, we flew in to Australia with my church group to attend a youth conference (Planet shakers). What I found interesting about this is how they made the conference effective and attracts the youth. I have been introduced with production like lighting and sound when I started attending a youth church in Waiheke and now I’m involved with it. I find that doing technical things like lighting and sound is really interesting, so when I went to Australia to see the conference I was amazed on the effect that they used. I like how the background light is used effectively. The atmosphere feels like you are in a concert and not in a church, which is really effective for the teenager, and making the church seems fun and not boring. Sadly I wasn’t able to take photos or videos, as we are not allowed to do that in the conference. But I found a site that shows a video of the lighting set up in the conference (http://vimeo.com/10858732). In this site they also have some highlights of what they do behind the stage and set up.
Play
May, 1 2010
I went to watch a production from the Island(Waiheke). The play is a really small
production but it was really good. It's about a boy who's mother left him and left him
to his auntie and uncle after he was conceived and came back to get him and take
care of him after his auntie had died. The story revolves around these two main
characters(mother and son) where they have to learn to get along each other after
16 years of separation and his mom telling him the reason why she left him. At first I
couldn't understand the play because most of the language used was maori. But
the body language and the facial expression helped me understand some of it. I
went to watch this play to see how they did the light setting and stage setup
because I'm always fascinated about production and how the light goes. Thorough
out the whole play I've been really observant with the lighting to give me some
ideas for our band when we play on stage. Overall the production was really great
and the acting was really good.
Sunday Church
May 8, 2010
Right after the play last week, the crew from the play did not put the lights back
where it should be and our band has to play the next day. So I did some planning
and did the lights, change everything around and put the lights on where we want
to focus it on like the drums, key board etc. It was a really hard work as we have to
take all the lights down, put them up, change the gel and decide what color to use.
Also, because the light board was high up, I have to run back and fort, up and down
to test the light. Luckily one of my band mate came so he did some helping and I
got the work done.
Electric Guitar
May 15. 2010
Last night was my first time to play electric guitar on stage. Guitar was the first
instrument that I learn but when my church started a band I jumped on the drums.
Inexperienced with the drums i did it anyway because I think that playing drums is
way cooler than guitar but way harder. It's been a while(4 years) since I played
guitar and it felt different and was nervous on holding a guitar rather than being
behind the drums. It was a great experience and I also felt great that I still
remembered my tabs and I manage to play the fast songs.
Most Extreme

On Saturday I was watching animal planet with my cousins and it was about top 10 most extreme gadget/tools used by insects and animals in order to survive. These gadgets/tools are then compared to human gadgets/tools. I was really interested on how few of these animals and insects learn how to use objects that will help them survive. The one that I was interested at was this type of wasp. Before she lays her egg she digs on the ground with a really tiny hole, she then find a caterpillar and put it inside so when her egg hatch this baby wasp will eat the caterpillar alive. But to protect her egg, she look for a small rock then put it on the hole. She then tense her wings and vibrates her body for the rock to fit. This is then compared to the tools that construction workers use to dig holes. The whole thing about this program as I watch it, is we could get ideas from these animals to make a gadget/tools. We could use it to adapt ideas and improve it. because if we think about it these animals are quite smart and it will be really great if we also get inspiration from the wild to make new gadgets.
Movie Review
Tues, 8 June 2010
last sunday I watched "Alice in Wonderland". In comparison with "Avatar" as a 3D movie, I think the graphics and effects in "Avatar" is much better than "Alice in Wonderland". When the part where Alice is in Wonderland, I was confused as why the characters are all together so I started to wonder. Through out the movie I understood that Alice was a big girl who returned to Wonderland and she has visited the place many times since she was little. For me the characters in the movie were quite a bit weird, especially the queen having a really big head, the twins where not as cute as the cartoon version. However I like how they made a twist of the queen of hearts having a sister which makes the story interesting. Overall I liked the movie but not as interesting as the "Avatar".
Movie Review

During the long weekend(Queen's birthday), I watched Percy Jackson with my cousins. The movie was really old but this was just the first time I watched it. I noticed that as years goes by, the effects used in movies gets better and better. The effect that I really liked the most was Medusa's hair. I liked how the snakes look real, also like what they did with the converse shoes when they put wings on it. The graphics in this movie is really good. the story of this movie was really good although when I saw the beginning I thought the movie is going to be boring.
