The wearable interface

Tues, 30 March
We are now have been given a new brief where we have to make a garment that will interact the body with the computer. In this task we will be using the Max5/max4.6 program to send messages from the garment/body to the computer. Now I just need to draw some ideas on what garment i will be using, the garment should not only have a great style but its performance should also be useful and interactive :). This will be challenging and also exciting for me as I have never done anything like this before.

Just got back from a conference in Australia, now I only have 6 days to do my project and I'm panicing. I had an idea of making a simple wearable interface as I don't have enough time to make a really cool one that does lots of things, I need to squeeze in the time I have and make something that is easy for me to do.

I've decided to make a wearable interface that plays and stops a movie using a binnie and a gloves (made of yarn). I did some research of what switch im going to do. This switch from instructibles web site have a really good pressure switch, but the conductive fabric was only available online and I don't have time to order and wait for it to arrive. So I ask one of my classmate for another alternative of a pressure switch and she told me about the homemade customized pressure switch and it was a great help.

I had a big struggle on finding a USB adaptor for my computer keyboard. I've collected many keyboard but non of them are USB key board. I've searched everywhere for an adaptor and went to shops in the island. So instead I went looking for a USB keyboard instead and in my luck I found one.

I couldn't understand MAX!!! so I spent this whole day trying to figure out how the keys on keyboards have their own corresponding numbers in max and how will I know what numbers to use for the keys that I chose. I started playing around the patches, searching then I saw this 'keyup' patch and I tried pressing some letters, and guess WOT?! Every letter I press shows its corresponding number or code!! I tried these numbers from the patches examples and pressed the key for it.... what a revelation!!

Now I've started to gather all the materials I need for my project. I did all the soldering and making pressure switch in one day and tried it on my patch. Everything worked well.

I've put the switch and the binnie together. I've decided to just use the binnie only as the switch does not properly on the gloves. Because the switch is not sensitive enough, it was hard to control on the gloves, so instead I put both switch on the binnie on either side where the temple is located.
