Reverse Cinema

Thursday 27 May 2010

Our new project has been given to us today. The brief project ask us to explore and exploit the conversations of the video medium and build on the knowledge acquired from the two previous exercises. We have to produce, shoot and edit our own video derived from  one of the re-edited wizard of Oz.

After handing out the brief, I went around to look for people who has the same genre as me, which is  "black/dark comedy". Part of our brief is to find people who has the same genre from the previous exercise and work with them with the same genre. I really like the production part as this is what I've been drawn to and interested but mostly with the stage kind of production. We talked about who will be doing what and because I'm not good at acting, I will be the camera person. I'm not quite happy about the genre that I have. I did some research about this genre and what I've learnt is that "black/dark comedy" is a rude kind type of comedy where it satirizes topics and events such as taboo but still remain the seriousness. I didn't quite understand taboo so I did some further research about it. I saw examples of taboo and i was quite shocked as I don't know if I could do things like that. I look for some videos of "black/dark comedy" on youtube and saw some really rude and bad jokes but I saw some good ones that I laughed at.

Today I am doing some further research and writing down ideas for the movie that we are going to film.

Today we've just started planning making the story board  and how our movie is going to turn out. We've talked with the tutors and we haven't really established what the play is going to be and where we're going to shoot it. We have some rough ideas of what the movie is going to be like.

I did some shopping for the props needed and have been walking up and down Queen street. After that I went to my cousin's apartment to ask if we could use the apartment for one of our location that we will use for the movie and I also took pictures of the apartment to show for my team mate. It has been a long and tiring day.

The story board has been changed and now we're just confirming actors and places. We also have been planning for the time of when and where we're going to shoot. So pretty much we are organizing things for tomorrow when we start filming.

Wednesday 2 June 2010

We started filming this morning and it has been a really long tiring. I find that making a movie is really hard and if you are not organized it would be impossible to finish a movie. As for our group who had done organizing with the location we still find it quite hard as the location are far from each other luckily we have a car. I find that time is the most important thing when we started this filming. Because if you ere not on time pretty much everything will fall out of place.

Thursday 3 June 2010

It has been a long day and we are on track. Yesterday we finished filming the locations right on time and did not waste every minute. Everyone was helping each other out and making sure we are doing what needed to be done. Today was really easy as we don't have to drive around the locations. Apartment was the last place for us to film. The apartment that we filmed was really small so it was hard for us to move around the set. The bathroom and the room was so small that it was hard to film, also the lighting was a bit of a problem as we are relying on the natural light. During the filming from yesterday there was a small  line that I din't like which is the "F****** fruit". The whole film of satirizing a Jehovah witness or a Christian was  already hard for me. But through out the film everything has been really soft black comedy. I just didn't like that part of the line as I am a Christian and it kind of hit me as well and the character also represents all the Christians. I wasn't offended from the line i just had a cringe every time i hear that line. The good thing about this film is we didn't make it really dark as we don't want to offend other Christians as well. Before we started filming I already have prepared myself to this as I have done research about the genre and so I know what to expect.
