Film Review

an experimental film made by Geogre Maciunas. is about a flux of art moving though out the film. He used shapes like circles lines and curves and only used two colors (black and white). As I watched the film the images started going faster looking like an optical illusion and it looked like 3D. As it goes faster I was getting drawn to it and staring at it and couldn't take my eyes off the film.
However, I did not understand what the film is really about. and what it's meant to be or trying to say. Until I focused on the title and the word 'flux' made me understood it. As the speed change in each patter the direction or flow of where is the image is going change.

Another experimental film that I watched was made by George Bretch which is the "Entrance to Exit". Before watching the film, I expected the film with a beginning and end which it does after watching it. What I did not expect on the film is that there was nothing, it was empty. It was just a white background in the beginning that changed to black. However, I did not stop from watching it and had full expectation that something will pop out or it will suddenly change out of the blue… but nothing. The only thing that changed through out the film is the color (white to black). However, the background made me think of an empty space and with just an empty space things can still change.

When I read what the film 'The Red Shoes' is about, I was already interested because I like ballet. I had no idea that it was an old film so I was falling asleep not half way through the film. Sitting there for two hours, watching an old film that is not as good as 'Avatar' with no space to stretch your legs was really painful. What I noticed on the film 'The Red Shoes' are the effects that were used. The film was made in 1940s and I never thought that in this era, the film industry are already using effects. I think that the visual effects are quite good for an old film. Mainly that is what I was focusing while watching the film. On the part where Victoria Page(ballerina) was dancing in the song 'The Red Shoes', the visual effects were used a lot. Even though it didn't look good, those effects have exposed the fill industries in experimenting with the film and using other technologies or techniques to make the film look better.
